Los trapos sucios se lavan en casa

Third project about Historical Memory whose home is in a photographic diptych consisting of: Photo 1 (Left) Limescale covering the body of one of the victims of the military putsch in 1936, located in the mass grave exhumed Gumiel of Izán, Burgos, Spain . And Foto 2 (Right) Documents a mobile cart to transport the laundry from the kitchen to the laundry room on the 3rd gallery of the former Carabanchel prison in Madrid. The project reflects on the penal system and the relationship between prisons and imposes contemporary society and simultaneously on the coup of 1936 and the subsequent Franco regime, its consequences and the current status of the more than 2,246 mass graves that exist in Spain.

«An intense week of work digging in the ground has unearthed in the place known as La Legua, in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos), a mountain range of bodies more than 30 meters long, the extension of a grave where they were left in the air, 75 years after being buried, 59 unnamed skeletons. The coroner Francisco Etxeberria, coordinator of the exhumation, says that the victims were thrown and piled up in this ditch in six batches. Some were killed right there. «We have found broken rifle sheaths and bullets next to the broken bones they hit. Most of the skulls have projectile holes …». The murderers did not have time to kill everyone they wanted, because this pit was prepared to house even more bodies. The last 10 meters of trench are dug, but empty. «They had made room for more,» adds the forensic.(…)
